July 4, 2007 by russroacharchivewaltzingaustralia commented a while ago on my entry: Do I hate Christians?
I apologize for the delay in responding to this.
As usual, italics are quoted from the subject, unless otherwise noted.
Well, a few comments come to mind. First, ALL groups are largely made up of idiots. I see no reason Christians should be the exception.
I never said they were the exception, just that I believe alot of Christians are idiots.
Second, Christianity doesn’t make people guilty. Religion does that. There is nothing in Christianity — real Christianity, not churchianity — that suggests you need to do anything right or need to live in fear. In fact, the opposite is the case. Religion teaches that you have to do everything right. Christianity teaches that all you have to do is trust and love, and God does (or has already done) all the work.. Christianity — true Christianity — is not a religion, it’s a relationship. And “do not fear” is a common instruction.”
Ah but the fact that neither are based on fact, mere unproven belief, through “Faith” – Which in my eyes is the opposite of clear and rational thinking, still makes it just as bad as “Churchianity”.
And as for the Crusades — it’s been a few hundred years. Get over it. It is NOT what Christianity teaches. It is what a few power-crazed rulers desired to accomplish and did in the name of Christianity. Not the same as being what Christianity teaches. Gets back to your point about idiots. Most people don’t know what Christianity teaches, so they believe whatever the latest really convincing teacher places before them. But this is by no means limited to Christianity. There is no belief system you can name (religious, political or anything else) where the vast majority aren’t just following a favorite leader, whether it’s Jim Jones or Vladimir Lenin. Christianity never endorses witch hunts. It rather tends to suggest turning the other cheek and going the extra mile — that sort of thing.
The lack of structured belief for your religion tends to add more doubt in my eyes. Even should many people have different opinions on a subject, there are facts that stay true throughout. Christianity never seems to have any of that. Granted, I do not know much about your cult “religion” however I know enough to be sickened by it.
Plus all that you’re quoting is from the Old Testament. The New Testament, where we learn about Christianity, says things like “Love your neighbor as yourself” and “By this will all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” and “These three endure, faith, hope, and love, but the greatest of them is love.”
Going from the Old Testament, sure, It’s quite a violent piece of work, and I do admit, it is fun to poke holes in. However based on your quotes, you imply everyone should love, have love for everyone else, regardless of all other things, and that love will always exist? That is for one unrealistic and two contrary to human nature. It demeans the quality of the emotion love to spread it about so thin. It makes any possible significant relationship pointless as you love everyone already. And it is not human nature to love all. If a person were to deliberately stab me, while in their rational mind, for no reason or fault of my own I wouldn’t forgive them. Nor would the mass majority of the worlds population.
You’re living in a dream land.
And of course people who don’t believe in God can still do good. The Bible makes that clear, too.
Where and how? From my quoted work I’ve proven that the Bible says it cannot. If it has both sides, then it’s a contradiction, and contradictions cannot exist in reality, in part or in full. So therefore the belief and works of the Bible cannot be true, unless you view it as a fiction novel.
As for your unfortunate derailing of logic in that extrapolation of “everyone born has a desire to serve God” — how do you take it to we all become Christians? If history has shown us anything it’s that we will find the gods that suit us. If we don’t serve God, we’ll serve someone else, most often ourselves. The desire to serve does not necessarily lead to truth. It just leads to a desire to take care of whatever we’ve set up as god.
Because the author of the quotation “everyone born has a desire to serve God” is Christian, the context “God” I took to mean the Christian God. Thus my answer in all that.
And I honestly don’t see how I “derail logic” with my argument.
And now you claim multiple God’s? Maybe I should start praying to Thor for some Thunder and Ale.
You’re obviously a bright individual,
Thank you.
and you have proven absolutely that you have found something you wish to serve, and you do it passionately. That is more commendable than joining the lukewarm multitudes who have no opinions and never search at all. I just hope your search leads you to something that has eternal value — and that frees you from your anger.
Wish to serve? No. I simply enjoy showing others an alternative view – The Truth as I believe and Prove.
Eternal value? The idea of eternity demeans the idea of Life. To hope that “Somehow, someway somepart of me will live on forever somewhere” is a children’s fantasy.
And anger? Only at people who refuse to accept the facts, and themselves.
Thank you for commenting though.
Cheers,
Russ

July 1, 2007 by russroacharchiveSo, I’ve been tagged by Tom Allen to write 7 random facts about myself. Ok, lets see…
1) I used to drink 4 liters of milk a day
2) My 30gig Ipod only has 500 songs
3) I’ve been told, multiple times that my eyes are the most attractive part of me
4) When people meet me, they seem to think I’m around the 35 mark.
5) I shave my head and beard with a set of clippers (The big thing hairdressers use)
6) I have a purple blanket on my bed at the moment
7) I can sing kind of well.
Did I do it right?
Alright, now I have to ‘tag’ some more people, to spread it about, so…
Bitchy, pegasus, PixiePie, Catalina, Peter, Laura, Jingy
As with the theme of the… ‘thing’? I chose rather random people. Well, ok Bitchy and pegasus were taken off the links on the front page of my site. The rest are random though. I promise.
Well… enjoy.

Do I hate Christians?
June 29, 2007 by russroacharchiveNo, I hate idiots. It just happens that the two groups are often filled with the same people.
I’ve been surfing around YouTube, watching various points of opinion, greatly enjoying the work of Richard Dawkins, when I came across this.
So to begin to respond, you talk about how we atheists take things out of context, twist the words around to make them seem horrible.
Let’s see, to recap on my last entry:
Psalm 14
1The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
Now, lets break this down: The Fool, implies the person not believing in God. Hath said in his heart, implies belief, in this case, the Belief that God does not exist. There is no God, rather straight forward. They are corrupt, Implies direct reference to “The Fool”, saying they are corrupt(1), they have done abominable works, again ‘they’ is directed at “The Fool” and saying they have committed works or deeds of a abominable(2) nature, there is none that doeth good, Directed again at “The Fool”, claiming that any “Fool” does not do ‘Good’ and implying that they are incapable of it.
1: Corrupt (source)
| 1. | guilty of dishonest practices, as bribery; lacking integrity; crooked: a corrupt judge. |
| 2. | debased in character; depraved; perverted; wicked; evil: a corrupt society. |
| 3. | made inferior by errors or alterations, as a text. |
2: Abominable (source)
| 1. | repugnantly hateful; detestable; loathsome: an abominable crime. |
| 2. | very unpleasant; disagreeable: The weather was abominable last week. |
| 3. | very bad, poor, or inferior: They have abominable taste in clothes. |
Now, with all that in mind, I think I captured the issue quite clearly in my last issue. I do not believe that is “twisting” words around.
To continue:
“It’s actually a love for people, that we want to bring them to the light”
So, you love people, however encourage, believe in and support a set of Beliefs that cause guilt, self loathing and keep people in an ever constant state of fear “Oh, if I don’t do it all right I go to hell”
Sure sounds like love to me.
To continue:
“They [Atheists] don’t want Christians to have eternal life because they don’t believe in it”
Most people are afraid of death, afraid generally because they do not want to accept it. It is a natural part of life, infact it defines life. If there were no death in the world, in the universe, we could not kill animals or plants to feed ourselves. We would starve, but we wouldn’t die. Because we wouldn’t die, we would overpopulate and use up all the worlds resources, live in misery and sickness, eternal hunger, pain and suffering – yet we would not die.
Without death at the end of the road, life becomes meaningless, not through that example, but without the risk of death, there would be no tremendous acts of good. The Firefighter who leaps into buildings everyday, risking his life to save others, that is Heroic. Without the risk of death, it would become meaningless to do so.
The idea that “Somehow someway, a part of me will exist somewhere when I die” is a nice fantasy, aimed at targeting as many people as possible, and offering them an alternative. I suppose to those, it doesn’t matter if the alternative doesn’t make sense or not.
We do not want to deny you anything, because we cannot deny you what does not exist.
To continue:
Around the 3 minute mark, he goes on to call atheists selfish for wanting to bring people who believe in God, to our point, our way of thinking.
It’s a two way street buddy, you’ve been trying to convert everyone who doesn’t believe as you do for hundreds of years, and even today Door to Door knockers, people giving out the bible in the streets, advertisement in front of churches “Come and believe in God and everything is all good”
And you think we’re selfish? Your religion claims to want to show people the truth, to save them. I and many others like me, want to show you the Truth, as we can prove and argue it. One of us has evidence, the other has faith.
To continue:
“Pretty hateful for those people who are trying to destroy something that is good”
Again, Good and evil are not constants, they are variables dependent upon the people involved. But lets stick with the standard view, Good being helping others, being friendly, not killing people, etc. And the opposite, evil which is murdering, hurting others, supporting misery, chaos and suffering, etc.
So, you view the Christian church and faith as good? As a good thing, filled with good people.
Let’s see, again in reference to my last post; anyone who works on the Sabbath has to be put to death. So, if you or a loved one, were dying, in pain and sickness, go to a hospital and ask someone to help you, However it’s Sunday and they’re working. They help you, ease your pain and make you better, and as a reward they deserve to be put to death?
In that sense, the Christian church seems to fit with the view of Evil more than Good.
To continue:
“I would say atheism and Christianity could peacefully co-exist and say: You know I believe this, and you believe that, Well, let’s shake hands and walk away in agreement”
If you met a person on the street, who had admitted to murder and called it apart of their beliefs, that they had a right to believe what they want, and they would like to shake hands and walk away in agreement, would you be all bubbly and cheery then?
Or would you get away from them as soon as possible and call the authorities?
I’m not specifically calling the Christian church murderers, but they do endorse it. Not only in the Bible, but Witch hunts, The Inquisition, the Crusades. It all continues in a common theme.
To continue:
He goes on to talk about how atheists go to churches, and ask “disrespectful things”.
You people come to my home and start giving me a sermon, and try to convert me. Should I perhaps come around to your home and do the same?
You know, keep it all equal: I won’t go to your church, but I will come around, house by house and start offering you all logic and reason. At 9am on a Saturday.
That would be an interesting experiment, to see how many Christians complain, when they do the same to me.
To continue:
He goes on to talk about how people do not like to be held accountable, and that he believes, people do not want to think of the idea that one day they will be judged.
But according to your religion, I can just repent and be on my merry way. Where’s the judging in that? Where’s the responsibility, the independence in that?
Seems to me like a copout.
To continue:
“When you write the rules it’s real easy to break them”
When you can spend 10 minutes repenting and have the slate washed clean, rules don’t seem to matter as much, do they?
I’d rather set my own limits, boundaries and rules and challenge myself to keep them, than simply expect people to forgive me for everything I do.
To Continue:
“We’re born with a desire to serve God”
No, you were raised by people who believed in God, and therefore had those beliefs imprinted onto you. Let’s look at this logically.
Now according to your statement my next one should be true:
Everyone born has a desire to serve God, so therefore the whole worlds population, from the beginning of Man to now, and in the future – are Christian.
Well lets see, I was born, I’m human, but I’m not Christian. How does that work?
I think I’ve made my point, a couple of hundred times over.
As always,
I’m Russ: You’re wrong.
On a sidenote: I will be getting back to BDSM, Gorean Philosophy discussion soon, I promise.
Some more proof, for my anti-god week.
June 29, 2007 by russroacharchivePsalm 14
1The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
So, anyone who does not believe in God cannot do good. Well, good and evil are not constant ideas, they are variables, dependent on the people involved, but lets assume for a minute that “Good” in this sense means helping others, easing suffering, providing aid and the like.
So, people who work in hospitals, who are not Christian are evil and they have “done abominable works”.
Hell even easier, anyone who volunteers for a counselling position, be it with a suicide hotline, or for people coping with mental or terminal illness – if they are not Christian, then in fact they are doing no Good, they are corrupt.
Sounds… reasonable.
But lets go one further – in a different direction:
Exodus 20:
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Exodus 31:15:
For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a sabbath of complete rest, holy to the LORD; whoever does any work on the sabbath day shall surely be put to death
So, anyone working in hospitals, petrol stations, law enforcement, 24-7 supermarkets, airports, the military – and a whole bunch more, should be put to death?
Hrmm.
Any Christians care to comment?
Cheers,
Russ
“Christian VS Gorean” – This time, a structured argument. Round Two.
June 28, 2007 by russroacharchiveWell, sitting here about to go to bed, I take a gander about and see a reply to my entry: “Christian VS Gorean” – This time, a structured argument.
I shall respond.
As you know, I woke up this morning with comments from Russ, who I get the impression from thinks that Christianity is a cult. He does make some good points that people in the Christian faith have collected a large amount of worldly and materialistic items in the world today. Something that I do not agree with. Though he makes sure to set his sights on the Vatican which is only one piece of the body of Christ and forgets to mention all the other people who distribute food, water, clothing, medicine, and compassion.
I “set my sights” on the Vatican, as it is one of the largest and well known Christian institutions. Show me another that influences near as much people, and I will happily respond to that. As to the people who do charity work, the old proverb “Give a man a fish, he eats for a day, Teach a man to fish he eats for a lifetime” comes to mind.
All you do is hold these people in your debt and guilt trip them into joining your Cult. Get down off your high horse and get in touch with reality, Please.
It’s also interesting that Russ only mentions three commandments in the old testament, yet forgets to mention not only the following commandment but all of the other 695 pages of the bible that speak about love. Did we forget the whole actual scripture…… honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’”
I was planning on using the next commandment, however I refrained against it. This time I shall not. Love your neighbor? So, do you have locks on your doors, an alarm system in your house? Have you ever woken up to neighbours bashing on the door, threating you?
And lets not forget the US’s International Neighbors. Has the US honored their neighbors?
Honor my Father and my Mother? Yes, and pray that they would have noticed their mistakes, repented, asked forgiveness, and began to rebuild a relationship with you and God.
Repent? So, they can just repent and everything hunky dory. No. Hell no.
No… Just no.
Shall not murder…if in your heart you ask God for forgiveness and walk in that forgiveness, then you will not be turned away from His love.
So, I can walk about, killing people, ask God to forgive me and everything all good? Who needs 007 when Christianity is giving me license to kill.
Russ makes the statement about Gore ans “We are what we are, we cannot change that, so we accept it.” Let’s see the once that I have met and dealt with have issues with control, anger, ego, and etc. Does that mean that I judge the whole by those that I have dealt with? No.
You choose to accept and not change, I choose to accept that I have faults and change for the better.
I choose to accept who and what I am, not deny it and create mental issues. One of the things I accept is that I can improve myself. Thats solid and will not change.
Should you judge the Bible and the Christian faith by how your parents related to you? No.
No one is perfect in the body of Christ and I too accept that.
I’m Judging the Bible and the Christian faith by multiple sources, the stuff about my past is just filler.
Once again Russ makes the statement that the easiest thing to do is not to think because it takes work. On the contrary, I have to make decisions every day of my waking life. Do I make the decision to believe in something that I can not see constantly or do I not? Do I change the things that need to be changed in my life or do I not.
Decisions to make, yes. But far far less than the normal, rational minded person. The Bible clamps heavily down on a persons freedom and will to choose their own actions and destiny.
The threat of Hell and Satan has kept the Church alive long after it should have died. And the idea of repenting your sins is simply an unlimited get out of jail free card.
Cheers,
Russ
“Christian VS Gorean” – This time, a structured argument.
June 28, 2007 by russroacharchiveGood Morning Readership,
I bring to you the long awaited Heavyweight Beliefs Championship match. In the Corner for Logic, Reason and Humanity, is your fantastic blogger, Russ Roach.
In the Corner for Christianity, and other like minded cults is Catherine, a 35 year old “Independent Writer” from California.
Now Catherine has posted in regards to my reply here. However, I found this a rather limited post, lacking in any information or arguments for her cause. Go ahead, take a read for yourself here and when you’re done, get back to reading here. Go ahead. I’ll wait.
Done? Good. Now, onto some friendly rebuttal.
This morning I wake up to find this wonderful comment in my email from a person to have gorean beliefs. “I’d advise you to think carefully before you embrace Religion and throw your life and mind away.”
I still stick by that. Following Faith only encourages you not to think for yourself, to instead mindlessly follow a set of beliefs as laid out by others. Generally for profit.
Now let me quote something from THE VATICAN BILLIONS by Avro Manhattan:
“The Vatican has large investments with the Rothschilds of Britain, France and America, with the Hambros Bank, with the Credit Suisse in London and Zurich. In the United States it has large investments with the Morgan Bank, the Chase-Manhattan Bank, the First National Bank of New York, the Bankers Trust Company, and others. The Vatican has billions of shares in the most powerful international corporations such as Gulf Oil, Shell, General Motors, Bethlehem Steel, General Electric, International Business Machines, T.W.A., etc. At a conservative estimate, these amount to more than 500 million dollars in the U.S.A. alone.”
Now, last I checked the unorganized movement of Logic, Reason and Humanity had AUD $28.38. Which will probably drop today, after I buy a pack of smokes.
Bigger is better, perhaps in this society, where it is required to sell your soul to earn a dollar. Catherine, maybe you should take a read.
But back onto the topic “Christian VS Gorean”:
“It amazes me that people think that since a person is a Christian that the brain just seems to go into slumber. That we believe everything that is said to us and that we can not think for ourselves. I’m here to tell anyone reading this that I judge everything that comes out of my Pastors mouth with scripture in one hand and reference material in the other hand.”
What reference material do you use, other than the Bible? Do you compare what’s in your bible with real life? Do you compare it to the needs and functions of the species? Have you actually evaluated the bible? Lets take a little gander now.
exodus 20:2-20:17:
5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me,
12 Honour your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
13 You shall not murder.
Lets make some rational arguments here shall we?
Jealous (source)
1. feeling resentment against someone because of that person’s rivalry, success, or advantages (often fol. by of): He was jealous of his rich brother.
Now, that doesn’t sound like Perfection to me, Doesn’t sound like the friendly, all loving God I hear so much about, if he admits he is a jealous God. Perhaps he realized he cannot compete with rational thought, so created a Cult?
Honor my Father and my Mother? Well lets see, I won’t go into full detail, but my Father is an alcoholic, violent and abusive, who used to beat me as a child. Honor him? No. My Mother tried to sexually molest me. Honor her? No.
Oh, but it’s God’s will? Oh I’m sorry, I never knew the Church openly supported child molestation.
Shall not murder.. so any Soliders who believe in the Christian Faith go to hell? Are hated by God, and are in fact Satan’s puppets?
Let’s see how many people I can find who relate God in some positive way or another to the US Marines:
I don’t really want to flood my site, try a Google search for “us marines god” – You’ll find plenty. But lets not forget the pledge of allegiance:
(source)
1954 to Present:
“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.”
Seems to me like a Contradiction. And as we all should know boys and girls: “A contradiction cannot exist in reality. Not in part, nor in whole.”
“To believe in a contradiction is to abdicate your belief in the existence of the world around you and the nature of the things in it, to instead embrace any random impulse that strikes your fancy–to imagine something is real simply because you wish it were. A thing is what it is, it is itself. There can be no contradictions. In reality, contradictions cannot exist. To believe in them you must abandon the most important thing you possess: your rational mind.”
(source)
Yes, the twin guns of Logic and Reason hit again.
“If a teacher uses a date or a definition then I think people should not believe that definition as truth, they should research it themselves.”
Much agreed. However, do you research your research, make sure the reference documents have their own references? And those? So on and so forth? I doubt it.
“As for throwing my life and mind away? I’ve had a better life in the past four years with my faith then I have had with the last thirty years of my life. The blessings are just too many to mention.”
Because not thinking is a very easy thing to do, and what is easy is not always best. A microwave dinner vs home cooked: Which will be better for you? Ones easy, the other takes time and effort.
The Gorean belief, In my eyes is one for the natural evolution of Humanity. We are what we are, we cannot change that, so we accept it. There are no higher powers, there is no place to go to after death. Cold hard fact is the key to true understanding.
Make your own choices. As usual, you are all welcome to your own beliefs, and the freedom to express them. However, if I disagree I will shoot them down, with the twin guns of Logic and Reason.
Cheers,
Russ

Ask Russ a Question!
June 27, 2007 by russroacharchiveWant to know the meaning of life? Want next week’s winning lottery numbers? Want to know how to build a car out a microwave?
Well, those are questions I’m probably not going to answer on my new service: Russ Answers.
Email your questions to: questions.russroach@gmail.com with Question in the subject line, and ask away. I will choose a couple each week and answer in detail, in video format.
You *can* ask any question you like, however you have a better chance of being selected if you keep it to the rough topics of the Gorean Philosophy / Philosophy in General / Logic and my personal life.
And No, Mr President of Nigeria, that does not include asking my bank details ;]
So, Readership, soon-to-be Viewership: Ask Away!
